What are Autoresponders

I've found that the term autoresponders confuse a lot of people. The reason is most likely that they really have no idea what it is or what it does so the term autoresponder is split into auto and responder when trying to understand it. The conclusion from this would be that it is something that can respond automatically. Now even though this is the besic functionality of an autoresponder, it is so much more in this day and time.

Mailingslists & Broadcasts

An autoresponder is basically some kind of program (script or similar) that allos people to signup, and unsubscribe to a specific list (or lists9 without any human interaction. Once subscribed the belong to a mailinglist.

The autoresponder then sends out emails according to pre-set configurations (pre written emails already stored in the autoresponder). This is normally done with specific time periods between each email.

Another very powerful option is the ability to send out broadcast mails to subscribers, groups or the whole list.

The company/Service I recommend is Aweber. Use them for newsletters and autoresponders and any other mailings need you may have.
