Newsletter Types Characteristics
Even though the different types of newsletters may look quite different we can often find hybrids of them. Thanks to the fast paced development of services and social groupings as well as interests online, the internet puches the evolution of many services and among them, newsletters.
Promotional Newsletters: Most commonly used by businesses to promote a product or service. Another name is marketing newsletter. A promotional or marketing newsletter is typically sent to current or prospective customers free of charge but paid subscriber models have become more common lately. The promotional newsletter tries to turn prospects into customers and customers into repeat customers.
Relationship Newsletters: Some examples are club newsletters, employee newsletters, church newsletters, and school/alumni newsletters. They focus on the shared interests of the target audience. Typically distributed at no charge, some organizations may send newsletters only to paid members and this can most often be seen in closed groups with a similar interest. Quite common in internet marketing.
Expert Newsletters: Very common among the internet marketing crowd. This type of newsletter can be very exclusive and/or be paid. The subscribers quite often are followers of the owner or one of his/hers products.

Planning Accordingly
Strategi and long time planning for your newsletter vary according to the newsletter types used by the owners. Pure informative newsletters require less long time planning and preparation than a newsletter that will be used to sell or influence the subscribers. What is common ground for all newsletter types is the need for direction. The first issues a subscriber reads pretty much sets the tone and expecation for what will come.
If you start of with several very bad issues, many will unsubscribe. If you start with very short content and later switch to very long content, your subscriber base will change the perception of your newsletter. And may god save us from a newsletter jumping between the different types of newsletters there are. That is a failsafe way of scaring a log of subscribers away. Something that can and will help you, nevermind what types of newsletters you run is looking at what format to use.
